PLAYERUNKOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, or PUBG, is an Online Multiplayer Battle Royal where 100 players are dumped onto an island and must find equipment like armor, weapons and painkillers to survive.
When first opening the game, you are given the option to choose from some preset faces and skin tones to create your character. After that, you have the option to choose between solo, duo or squad. Each game-mode presents a different challenge; in solo you are all alone, everyone is your enemy and there are no second chances. In duo, 2 players must work together to survive and if one is knocked down, he can be revived by his teammate. Squads can be 3 or 4 players working together.
There is a lot of gameplay variety and no other game will be the same as before. Besides players, you also have two other enemies known as the Red Zone and a huge, blue wall of death. The red zone is an area which will be bombarded by planes and the more passive enemy, the blue zone is a wall that closes in on the “Safe Zone” and anyone caught outside it will be slowly zapped of their health. The aforementioned “Safe Zone” only keeps you safe from the game but not from the players.
There are plenty of weapons and weapon attachments in the game which cater to multiple styles of combat. There are also cosmetic items like coats, padded jackets and masks which can be found in various parts of the map. While they do not provide any armor benefits, they could be useful in helping you blend with the environment. The Ghillie Suit blends in with the grassy environment so well that one player unknowingly stood beside me as I was prone in the grass.
There are only a few vehicles such as the Dacia, UAZ, a motorbike and a buggy. But this is a game in early access and there are plans to add more vehicles soon. The vehicles themselves are balanced pretty well and all have some pros and cons and are not very overpowered.
PUBG is so popular that it briefly topped CSGO for most concurrent users so you don’t have to worry about not having anyone to play with.
One complain I have with this game is the optimization. Since it is an early access title, the optimization is abysmal. Even with my GTX 1080, I would experience drops to 50 fps on 1080p. While the performance has improved and now my fps is mostly at a steady 144fps, you need a very beefy PC to run this game as it is.
I give this game an overall solid rating of 8/10, and would recommend all gamers to definitely play it.
